Julia Lesnichy

Julia's life is steeped in vivid colors, impasto technique and dynamic compositions allowing Julia to create paintings filled with light, color and atmospheric perspective in both oils & oil pastels.

Julia was born in Leningrad, now St. Petersburg, & grew up in Moscow as a 'city girl'. Seeing a sunset of oranges & reds one night coming home from work affected her so strongly she immediately asked her husband to buy her paints, brushes & canvases. In Russia Julia created over 200 works, many of which are in private collections.

The sense of place and the quality of atmosphere are the attributes of her works, which evoke concepts of beauty and human experiences. In America she settled her family in Crozet, a quiet rural area of Virginia. She is drawn to the ever changing seasons of the Shenandoah area & vineyards nearby and they are a great source of inspiration when they turn scarlet red, bright yellow & glowing orange!

Julia holds membership in the American Impressionist Society, Pastel Society of America, Southeastern Pastel Society, Northwestern Pastel Society & the Mid-Atlantic Pastel Society.
The recipient of numerous awards Julia was published in the Plein Air Magazine, April/May 2018 with a wonderful article, "Pastelist At Heart" showing her step by step broken-color technique applying layers of colors in thick strokes & creating multi-layered paintings.
